George Pietzcker's photographic career was jump-started by his coverage of the historic 1913 US Open Championship won by an Amateur golfer & caddie, Francis Ouimet in a playoff with the great British champions Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. From that moment he began a photographic record of every national championship and of the illustrious golfers of the era until the 1930s. His series "National Golf Champions" were richly printed photographic portraits from the major tournaments and are now an anthology of a bygone age. |
